Holiday Crafting Season Has Arrived (and It’s Okay to Start Slow)

There’s something about this time of year that makes me want to reach for my paper trimmer, a warm drink, and a cozy playlist. The air turns crisp, the lights start to twinkle, and suddenly the urge to make something comes back in full force.
But here’s the thing—jumping back into creative mode doesn’t have to mean diving straight into big projects or perfectly planned pages. Sometimes, it starts with simply showing up at your desk again.
It’s been a while since I’ve taken the time to really slow down, stop, and just create. Something. Anything.
I get so much joy when I’m making things—when I’m in that creative flow where time disappears and all that matters is color, texture, and story. But somewhere along the way, I stopped giving myself that time. I let the busy parts of life take over, and I forgot that creating is self-care for me.
So this season, I’m choosing to start again. To let the holiday spirit help me find my rhythm, to start simple, and to rediscover that spark that comes from putting something beautiful together with my own hands.
Easing Back Into Creativity
If you’ve been away from your supplies for a bit (or maybe longer than you planned), you’re not alone. Life gets busy, and creative rhythms ebb and flow. The good news? Inspiration doesn’t care about timing—it just needs a spark.
Here are a few gentle ways to ease into the season:
- Start small. Print a few favorite photos or jot down a story you want to remember from this year.
- Revisit a favorite kit. You don’t have to start fresh; sometimes old favorites rekindle new ideas.
- Create for the joy of it. Not every project has to be for an album or a goal—play just because it feels good.
- Make it cozy. Light a candle, grab that festive mug, and let the season inspire your space before your scissors ever hit paper.
